CCD Technology and Digital Radiography
The ImaSight 4600 utilizes CCD (charge coupled device) technology that has proven highly successful in healthcare radiography applications over the last two decades. Our system uses one, high quality CCD with a large imaging surface (16 million pixel image area) and small pixel size that provides the sensitivity, resolution and contrast demanded for the generation of high quality digital x-ray images. The CCD we use also has a very low signal-to-noise characteristic that boosts image quality significantly. As a result, we can optimize efficiency and avoid the problems associated with other systems that use an array of smaller CCDs and claim to generate sharper images – but don’t. In fact, the CCD we chose for the ImaSight 4600 is already deployed in significantly more expensive hospital-based systems, reinforcing the fact that CCD-based image sensors meet or exceed the key image metrics required by your practice area.
The efficiency of high quality CCD chips has increased by well over 50% in recent years, and scintillation screens, such as utilized in the ImaSight 4600, have improved dramatically as well. Now, the proprietary optical design developed by ImaSight researchers that involves a patented 3D light path, enhances even further the efficiency of these two elements by capturing more quality light in order to produce a razor-sharp digital x-ray image.
The design of our internal cooling system also provides a key advantage for users of the ImaSight 4600. As a result of the size and quality of the CCD chip the ImaSight 4600 uses, we are able to utilize an internal heatsink cooling design to maintain optimum temperatures. As a result there are no liquids or moving parts such as fans to introduce dust or promote corrosion. Our sensor design also separates all internal electronics from any damaging radiation by locating them safely away from the 3D lightpath. This means the ImaSight 4600 is a fully sealed unit that results in virtually maintenance-free operation.
